<![CDATA[Polyonics launches materials for automotive applications]]> http://www.labelsandlabelling.com/news/polyonics_launches_materials_for_automot Polyonics has launched two label materials, the XF-592 (polyimide) and XF-807 (aluminum), for use in ‘under the hood’ applications for the automotive industry which are aimed at providing extra durability.

Automotive applications expose labels to high temperatures, abrasion and harsh chemicals that can cause them to yellow, shrink and fall off.

The XF-592 is a polyimide label with a high temperature aggressive acrylic adhesive and a high opacity white topcoat designed for barcode or alphanumeric identification. The aggressive pressure sensitive adhesive on this product is specifically designed to adhere to rough surfaces (i.e., engine blocks) where high temperatures occur.

The XF-807 is an aluminum label material with a permanent high-temperature acrylic adhesive and a high opacity, white topcoat specifically designed for thermal transfer printing. The aluminum face sheet is said to provide excellent long term temperature and impact resistance over polymeric films.

These materials are compliant with the REACH & RoHS initiatives and are Halogen free.

<![CDATA[Tharo unveils RFID Wizard for labeling software]]> http://www.labelsandlabelling.com/news/tharo_unveils_rfid_wizard_for_labeling_s Tharo Systems has launched RFID Wizard for its EasyLabel labeling software, which allows the creation of EPC (Electronic Product Code) and DoD (Department of Defense) smart labels.

RFID projects that do not require the EPC or DoD RFID code can use EasyLabel to directly program HF or UHF smart labels in a hexadecimal or ASCII format.

EasyLabel brings the option to import parts or all of your RFID data from sources such as databases, serial files, user input, existing barcode or text fields and external text files. The RFID data, encoded in the RFID tags, can also be printed on smart labels as a text or barcode field.

An additional EasyLabel RFID feature is the ability to write and print a report that includes the data used to program printed smart labels. This report can then be used as part of an ASN (Advanced Shipping Notice) or to keep a record of labeled items.

<![CDATA[Brigl & Bergmeister appoints new managing director]]> http://www.labelsandlabelling.com/news/brigl_and_bergmeister_appoints_new_manag Austrian-based label and flexible packaging paper producer Brigl & Bergmeister has appointed Michael Sablatnig as its new managing director.

Sablatnig has 25 years of industry experience, having previously held the position of chief commercial officer with international paper groups Mondi Business Paper and Neusiedler. He has recently acted as an industry consultant with his own business, MyWay Consult.

‘My plans are to strengthen Brigl’s position in the sector as a market leader, and focus on our position as a leader in quality,’ he said.

Sablatnig also stated that he would continue to follow the cost restructuring program which commenced at Brigl last year, in order to make the business more competitive. He emphasized that his appointment did not mean change in strategy for Brigl & Bergmeister.

Sablatnig added: ‘Our target is to make Brigl & Bergmeister more professional and fit for the challenges of the market. Brigl & Bergmeister’s customer structure needs to be more international, and become more global, due to the consolidation of its customer base in the breweries sector in particular. This means we no longer have many customers on a one-to-one basis, so we need to improve our presence and build a better structure within our business. We need to be close to the multi-national customers at headquarters level, whilst at the same time improving our local sales level presence.’

The event will take place on April 7-8 at the Holiday Inn, Birmingham M6, Jct 7, from 9am to 5pm.

The seminar will focus on the fundamentals and process know-how needed to handle any web handling issue. From exploring the theoretical to understanding practical applications, participants will be able to diagnose and treat existing problems and also accurately identify the specifications needed for new webs.

Critical areas of tension control, web tracking, roller choices and their effects, machine alignment and web defects such as roping, telescoping, and staring will be covered at various levels. Although theory is included, emphasis is placed on practical problem solving techniques for the plant engineer.

Instructed by Chris Watson, a web handling technology authority, the course is applicable to any web-based product, including paper, film, metals, non-wovens, textiles, or any combination of coated or laminated webs. It is intended for product and process designers, process engineers, quality, maintenance and lead operators, as well as sales and service personnel.
